Slowly into the gutters and pits

They stand and clap and laugh
Shout in words, moving forward
We slow down in deed
Slowly into the gutters and pits

We have gone a long way
Yet nowhere when we look back
Our back is dark if not full of shadows
Our steps we can’t see so we slip
We fall while we move

A long way we have gone
And when our eyes we raise
So bleak, cloudy sky, stormy sea
We held the brush full of energy
And can’t read what we write
And can’t make meaning what we hear
Or express in freedom what we feel

Slowly, slowly and slowly
We move to a standstill
And when we can move no longer
Where will they be: our children?
Only a cycle to form
Irreversible, unending

Around they still stand and clap and laugh
Watching as we continue to move
Slowing down in deeds
Slowly into the gutters and pits
