Back into a mother's grip

Holding their palm fronds
Round and round the church court
Hosanna o hosanna they shouted
Higher and higher even with their fronds

A mother who held strongly, a hand
Her baby boy her lad precious to her heart
Yielding to his resistance
A moment
Him, she left

Without malice her beatings
His sensibilities to awake
Back into her strong grip, his hand
Back home with her only lad
Who never understood why
Throughout their journey

Drink from my waters crow

Drink from my waters crow
Enough of your shadows
Which break my turgid surfaces with a kiss
You fly alone
And no where you go
But to and fro.

Rattling beads

Rattling beads
Marching feet
The river far off

Rattling beads
Reflect not their sounds
From the pretty bare feet
Receding from the well

Slowly like the setting sun
We parted company
Slowly those warmth turn ice
A colourful woven tapestry
A lonely thread will turn
Thirsty to be woven back
If even slowly.

The moon at the bus stop

Your moon is up
And you are not there
Dark clouds cover its face
Hiding its fragrant smile on the horizon
Long gone was my sun
Leaving not behind
Its colourful sunset to trace
In the cold
At the stop
All alone I stand
Waiting a light from a bus
To flicker my eyes in the dark

Short is my sleep

Short is my sleep
And long the thoughts of you when awake
No pain no ache
But fond thirst which need to be quenched

Long is the night’s yearn
To lay and sleep
Shortly to awake
The pinching thoughts at my side
No pain no ache
Into a deep day dream
Me to be transported

Sad when the morning rhymes descend
They cut my woven thoughts
Another day
Another toil in the sun
Before another yearn to sleep
Shortly, then another wake

The last days were short

The last days were short
Long the pain to endure
Certainly, full of surety
Brief like the light before dusk
Bright and pleasant, its warmth
Which will bring in the dark
The long silent dark
Long long awaited

Jumping on the dusty sand

Dizzy the feeling of little lizy
After several hours of jolly jumping
With friends on the burning sun
Jumping and jumping they jumped on

Into the sand went they
A jump splashed on their blouse
The warm earth in glee
A free gift received
Their blow to dodge and respond

Little fingers move their waste
To clasp like the thunder in pairs
Little lizy feeling giddy
Down she sits to settle with dust

In her flapping eyes went the dust
Coughing, itching and sneezing
Across the sea gulls will fly
And Mama’s voice will echo in her mind

Hami etsuru maha bo eyɛn

Bele bele baaho nsÉ›

Their noise below the passing shadows
Their gaze on their nails

Did their passing, away take my colour?
The white mark on my nail, behind leave?
Else tomorrow another jumping
Jumping and jumping on the dusty sand
