Thank you my own

On this mystical path I am blessed
but you, my own, who will have
when i think of it?
The thoughts of you around
that you will be there
frees me from acts of shame and sham
from crime and eternal cries
For all timely support
through thick and thin
you tack me in night and bright
like the early morning dew on the tendrils
before the damsels awake to fetch water
from the wells and oases to nurture
You bless my countenance fallen
like you have always done
ever faithful ever assured
even when I was a stranger
now your love
your own

... thank you my own.

Prof Kwabena Nketia

Dust to dust and ashes to ashes
was not said of the fine dust
which was blown and now in our entrails
It remains forever relevant
forever in the hearts purer
In the souls fresher
in the minds uncorrupted

Behind the veil I see
a psyche leaves its body,
dark skin so tall that penetrates the skies
A master builder of the times
who once lived in a coast of gold
south of the Sahara
where the Greenwich meridian cuts across

The light at the great hall dimming
Oh Legon loses its own, a professor, a composer
A maestro and father to ethno music
Great masters never fall
they sleep the long sleep
The sleep of the fathers, the ancient ones

We will mourn not your loss
Because we still have them
What you left mankind
What you stood for
Your idles, dreams
Your handiworks, deeds

Oh master, master composer,
master of the arts you are
Nature in harmony you left us
In letters, signs
keys, lines
sounds fine,
tunes in rhymes
They vibrate and echo at the same time

They float and navigate tribes, cultures
A soul that made audible and plain the language of souls
the messages of the powers that be you captured
to shape a whole generation, an era, a civilization a time
There is beauty in harmony of notes
but you led us to unity through musical harmony

Oh master, master mind
Once I sought to see you
but now I have all of you even those who think in line with you
I wanted to hear your voice
but now have it even with the echoes of your voices
I wanted to feel your presence
but now I have more to feel than that,
your overwhelming influence across the seas and beyond the spheres

In the mind’s eye we still see you
A life like a river which flowed in the dirty boisterous waves
yet never lost its colour, fresh smell and taste.

Oh life is death, death’s liveliness and youth, its storm before the calm.
Death is life, life before another begins.
In death is life, a transformed life.
Life never ceases, it pauses several times to renew itself
and transformed into other garbs when death calls
giving way to other different forms of life.

Legon will arise
Ethno music will survive
Whatever you loved will still smile

me guiará a mi futuro.
no estará cansada o débil
pero se alzará arriba y encima de las estrellas.

Y con este beso que me ha influido
a aprender algo nuevo: un pueblo de otro continente y su cultura;

Fount Of Love

If I must sip but once
and quench an inevitable thirst,
where will I go between two clear rivers?
In onward wonder a river will keep me;
deep reflections of regret, another.
While each step meanders,
thou fount of love
through me that will flow
do find me quick
that perfect outlet slope.
For in weakness I bear this hold
so strong to let you show.

MATILDA

Matilda my love and Empress
A virtuous woman who will get
Together our paths have intertwined
In love inseparable from the deepest depths of the soul
Laughter, long life, abundance and good tidings I wish you
Dearest love that will be bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh
As long as I live; so let it be..

I have found you

Oh pearl washed clean by the lonely brook
Our only gold covered by the blowing sand
On the meandering path
The last grape still left on the dying vine
Where are you?

Hide not from me while I come
I searched in the harvesting time’s sun
And found not your bloom
Speak no more of looming doom
But how a heart responds to a call
When miles away beyond the seas.

To love is to care
To care is to understand
To understand is to make better.

I search you my love
A precious gift I will die to keep
Pure and spotless I know you will be
Sweeter than sour when all is lost
And I am the only one standing.

Many times I will not spit I wish
When your deeds
fill full my lonely tongue
to bite and to bleed it.

I search my love
I am here!
Where are you…
.. my pearl, my gold, my grape?
I’ve found you.

Viva los novios!

Samuel Barnor

Samuel Barnor

Short and few
My memory recalled
Shocked the news
My ears recount
While I bow my head
Not in shame but respect
To a heart of gold
A tongue of angels
A life loved by men
Even in your death

How has the crown fallen off our heads
And our sceptre now laid low?
Behold thy glory:
Seven Great Princes Academy’s 1998 year group
Dissipates within our high places
The dew of doom
Fell on our lawn
That dawn
And our guard in disarray
Our group will continue to weep for her own:
Our classmate, year mate, friend, dear one and husband
Because he is not

May The Earth lie lightly on him
In the bosom of Abraham’s God
In His perpetual remembrance
In perfect peace, rest

You are beautiful

Best things come to those who wait
Beautiful things will not wait
When all the time you waste
To tell or have, you must with all haste

How beautiful all what you saw
At the entrance of your world
How you yearn to have it all
If not for others who needed more

And crawl if can’t walk
And mimic if can’t talk
Just to tell them all
That the beautiful one is born

Never to expect another
But treat the rest the lesser
While you sit close to her
And far far away from them

At Julian's wedding

It was the moment I saw something different
The palms hit hard the skin of the small drums
And will not let loose their spleen on man
but on the poor ear their throbbing throbbing

when the bald head sweat another hand wipes it
because the happy honey waist is giggled in gladness
when the hand leaps up, handkerchiefs in the air will shake
bidding goodbye to bachelorhood and spinsterhood

where is he alogo alogo to have here the boboobo
it will soon be their first night
around they will go, around the fountain
from which came this noisy grease
which has set in motion their heavy sides and lips
tiredness is forgotten when cares are shaken off
but only for a while will this last

when music goes off
allowing the real music selected by the couples
to dance as long as they please
their whole life time

dance well my brother the boboobo just ended
dance to the tune you’ve selected
the arena, and the floor stand deserted
dance in glee around the familiar places
don’t be confounded when you discover something new
dance on my brother, dance it off
the outside music might end
yet hear the one within and dance on
if even her music fails, focus on yours and dance on
alone, till yours end

Meeting Rian and Mary

Surely you will see them appear
Like the star closer to the moon
Never one without the other.
Sparkling smiles beaming on her face
And on his, a hidden but obvious smile I find.
I see that smile that speaks volumes unsaid
When in their company to be desired
Brought closer to my needful shore
Through a silvery precious flute
Found in a woven basket carried by her glorious hand.
Bless where our paths crossed
While I remember each shaking hands
Each melodious tune and what came out of it
A journey under the heat and sun unfolds.
I pray that the footprints will never disappear where our paths crossed
While on our sacred trail, each still going on till the end.

NB
I will never forget the help I received from
these couple within the shortest period
that I met them.
Thank you Mary Richards for helping with my musical notes
and Rian Richards for bringing her each time.

Rubbing dried leaves

Can we like branches intertwine
Our love to express?
O how they filled the silence
Together they rubbed their dried leaves
When I raised up my head and first saw you
I heard no more my footstep
But my heart beat
I now know
That I have in vain searched for a heart
When a heart so tender
And caring sought after mine
Why should I let her go?

Falling tears

Tear drops fell on me like ice
And I wanted to vow a quest
I knew I could not reach
It is my last night today
Tomorrow will not find me here
Again like today with you
If today passes me by
Without saying it to you
Generations, the sky and all eyes
Will never forgive me
O, you are the best thing
That ever happened to me

Moon closed her eyes

When the moon closed her eyes
And the starlet night faded away into a lover’s bosom
All my fruits one after the other fell on the ground
If it were not your grasses which covered the hard ground
I would have been torn apart without repair.

Her Fiery Eyes

O my night sky,
my windows were opened
Not broken
To allow in even these rays
The sun has gone down
And I have never seen her fiery eyes
Fly across my viewing sky
Until now

I want to live

I am living
but I am not living
I don’t have a life,
you have my life
and make me live
When you leave
I will not live
Never leave me, my rib;
I want to live.

HBD FINA

I see day when I see you
Thy light shining on the meadow
In vast expanse thy glory beneath the heavens
Butterfly kisses the petals and carries away all
But peace and joy abundant I leave from my heart all
To you my most cherished love…

Legon, The Pride Of The Stars

Here we are
the pride of the stars
here we are
the black star hanging in the gold
between the flora and the blood
            we call thee to arise
            arise oh Legon arise!

Thou tongue that spits in the heart
thou hand that holds high the sceptre
thou who blazes the trail
thou on whose shoulders we stand
thou who has reached the highest
            to thee we say ayekoo
to thee our remembrance even from the grave

The old mother of the feeding hills
the hope of the coast of gold
the cloth that covers our nakedness
the silence is deafening
the shining light we await
            we’ve called thee to arise
fill us full thy enlightened breadth!

When we see the dew fall on our lawn
from thy bountiful sky in the morn
when the tower light at the great hall
has shown the only way through the dawn
surely we shall see thee
            arisen oh Legon arisen
shining brightest above, among the stars

The golden beam bids you come

The bells have rang, her morning has come
the ears hear the cheers
the waters of Thames blessing her soul, even the dew of heaven
Albion Kings and Queens born and gone

on your shoulders and laps another like you will lie
Arms that held her high never get tired
while lisping speech remains
and crawling limbs stand not on their own

We hail you, even the womb and that strong arm
for making you fourth in succession, in the realm
From the white hall come
even from the Court of Saint James

Come England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland
Come hither come hither from far and beyond
We’ve seen her majesty, Charlotte Elizabeth Diane
Princess of the realm where the sun never sets

SHOT WITHOUT A GUN

Bathed with the gel of beauty
Smiling like a sister to the clear sky
When suddenly a burst out from the bloom
The unexpected early morning rays
Oh how she jerks her head in the arena
Only an audience I am
I feel I should do same
The only way to get a clear shot without a gun
